Music Theory Lessons

Theory of Music

Theory of Music is the explanation of the ideas behind music and how music is put together. With a good foundation in Theory of Music, you will understand what you are playing, which will make things like improvisation and composing much easier!

The ultimate goal of our Theory of Music lessons is to produce a musician who is able to understand, read, write, analyze, and compose music.

Students will learn about…

  • Improvisation and composition
  • Ear training using solfège (do-re-mi) and how to hear and recognize pitches, intervals, and chords
  • Scales, key signatures, basics of harmony, and rhythm
  • Basic piano literacy
  • Pieces of music from different periods and genres of music history

Students are placed after meeting with the theory teacher, and grouped according to their age and skill level.

Understanding Basic Music Theory is a comprehensive insight into the fundamental notions of music theory: music notation, rules of harmony, ear training, etc. It covers most of the topics needed to understand and develop your musical skills
